A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating More Golfers
1. Register your facility
You can register your facility in one of two ways: 1) visit www.playgolfamerica.comand click on the “Become a Host Facility” link, or visit www.pgalinks.comand click on the “Register Your Player Development Programs. The process of registering your facility is a one-time process, and need not be repeated. REMEMBER THAT THIS STEP DOES NOT complete the process…you must register your player development programs for the “strategy” to work.
2. Determine what programs are appropriate for your facility and your particular resources
The www.pgalinks.com/playgolfamerica/site has a “Resource Center Home” that contains a wealth of information and tools for your use. Here you will find program descriptions, curriculums, marketing tools, tips and other valuable information that will help you decide what you want to do at your location. Study the different programs offered in the Program Tool Kit area, and select WHAT you plan to do (you might find that something you are already doing works) and WHEN you plan to do it.
3. Schedule your events on PlayGolfAmerica.com
This is the crucial step that many seem to be overlook. In order for you to take advantage of the marketing effort, your programs must be registered on the PlayGolfAmerica.com Web site. If they are not, you will NOT see results from the national marketing campaign.
4. Market your program
Remember that the marketing campaign is a NATIONAL program, and that it is also heavily dependent upon PSA’s. You may not see immediate and dramatic results. The best bet for successful programs is to know and understand that YOU are responsible for getting your sessions full of participants. The Resource Center contains valuable marketing tips, as well as numerous marketing tools such as flyers, brochures, etc. that you can customize to assist in marketing your programs.
5. Follow up
The follow up that is necessary to ensure the success of the Play Golf America campaign is YOUR responsibility! You need to do TWO specific follow-up action steps:first, make sure that your students COMPLETE your program! This sounds simple, but it is critical and we need to make sure that we don’t drop the ball on this issue.Maintain personal contact throughout the session, and do follow-up contact with EVERY SINGLE PARTICIPANT!!Make sure they actually MAKE it to the golf course.Secondly, be sure to get every participant registered on the Play Golf America website. This will accomplish three things… it will give us a better understanding of what programs are popular; it will allow us to track the success of the overall campaign; and it will help you develop a database of your customers for your use in future marketing campaigns and correspondence.
6. Enjoy the success of YOUR effort
By following the five steps we just covered, you will enjoy a number of benefits. These programs will put DOLLARS in your pockets! They are very successful financially and well worth the time and effort required to market and manage your programs.Plus, you will have the personal satisfaction that comes with introducing a new golfer to the game… something that goes beyond the monetary returns.AND you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you participated in an industry-wide effort that is having a DIRECT impact on the future of the game of golf.
